Report a Crime/Submit a Tip

The Niles City Police Department now offers citizens a way to Submit a Tip about a crime online or Submit a Tip through mobile phone access using the Soft Tip website. Both are electronic crime fighting tools to allow the community to assist us in helping to keep our neighborhoods free from crime. If you have an emergency or see a crime in progress DO NOT use this service. DIAL 911. The online form and the Soft Tip website should be utilized for non-emergency submission of tips regarding a crime.

But we also know that if no one reports a crime, it’s as if it never happened. If no one reports a crime, the criminal is free to commit more crime, damaging more communities and individuals. It’s also important to report crime for your own practical purposes, like getting a Police Report number so that you can make an insurance claim. When you want to report a crime, call us or visit the Law Enforcement Complex.

Our new online features allow you to Submit a Tip. Whenever you see the QR Code shown on the right in printed form, you are able to scan the code using your mobile device to go directly to the Crime Reports website to Submit a Tip.  To Submit a Tip only you can also use the Niles Police Department's Submit a Tip form.

By Telephone

  • General Information and Non-Emergencies: 269-683-1313
  • For Emergencies or Crimes in Progress Dial 911

By Visiting the Law Enforcement Complex

  • If the crime was committed within the City of Niles, you can visit the Law Enforcement Complex at 1600 Silverbrook Ave. Niles, MI 49120
  • At the police station you will be asked to provide details of the crime and make a statement about the facts of the case.
  • You’ll receive an incident number that you can quote to find out about the progress of your case and to use if you’re making any kind of insurance claim.

By Making an Anonymous Tip Online

The Niles City Police Department is a completely independent organization which allows you to provide the details of a crime, without revealing your identity. All crimes and any information you would like to report to us can be reported through the link below. You will not be compelled to give your name, sign any kind of statement or appear in court – all you have to do is provide the information about the crime.
